MonTel Databases - what is what.

There are two basic types of MonTel databases, and each of these comes in two different flavours.

Call record databases (or files)

Firstly, consisting of the Main Call Record Database and one User Call Record database for each user of the MonTel system. These are generated by the MonTel Server program, and read by the MonTel clients. They require minimal local and network overhead, but have only limited capacity to be searched and indexed. The call record database is stored in a MonTel proprietary format, and each record is secured against accidental or deliberate alteration.

Master Client Database

For import and exporting and recording disbursement information MonTel uses the "Master client database", which is stored on an SQL server or on the free SQL Server 2005 Express available from Microsoft.

The Master client database stores client matter and contact information imported from the external accounting or disbursement system. The MonTel client also allows you to make notes about these calls (or contacts or clients) as well as charging time or disbursing costs against the Call Record and associating the charges with a client code.
