Daylight savings reverts to normal for 2001

This topic is obsolete. Montel Version 2.12.1 onwards uses a different method for recording DST start and end times

Last year, because of the Olympics, daylight saving time (DST) started much earlier (late August) than in normal years for NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and ACT (but not SA). We don't have Daylight Saving in Western Australia. (See Day Light Savings in the Year 2000)

MonTel needs to have changes made to the PABX.INI file (using EdIni32.exe) or call records made display the wrong starting date and time.

In the DST states:

  • Daylight Saving begins at 2am on Sunday 28 October 2001. Clocks should be advanced one hour to read 3am (Australian Eastern Standard Time) at 2am.
  • Generally, DST or "summer time period" means a period starting at 2am on the last Sunday in October in each year and ending at 2am on the last Sunday in the following March.

There are a number of web sites which have the information, for example:

http://www.sacentral.sa.gov.au/information/daylite.htm (link now broken).

http://www.dstc.qut.edu.au/DST/marg/daylight.html (link now broken).

The PABX.INI file changes are required for the MonTel Server and the 16bit client. The MonTel 32bit client uses the Windows system time. You can use TZUtil or MonTel for force these settings for Windows operating systems. Alternatively, Microsoft has made available a patch from their web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/australia/support/timezone/2000.htm (link now broken)

Icon File TemplateFor more on TZUtil see What is Time Zone Utility, How to use TZUtil and http://www.netwiz.com.au/tzutil.html.

Changes Required in Daylight Savings States:

To correctly record and display the time in MonTel, TZDaylightStartDateTime and TZDaylightEndDateTime in the time zone Section in the PABX.INI file should be:

TZDaylightStartDateTime = "02:00:00 28/10/01"
TZDaylightEndDateTime = "02:00:00 25/03/01"

Please note that the daylight savings time and dates should be for the same year.

Where the State does not have daylight savings these entries should be blank. The other settings should remain the same.

More information on the time zone settings can be found in the topic How to convert from the 16 bit MonTel Client to the 32 bit MonTel Client.
