MonTel Notify unexpectedly popping up incoming calls

This topic applies to 2.8.4 through to 2.9.0 Pre-release viii.

A number of changes have resulted in some unexpected behaviour in a very few sites, where incoming calls unexpectedly pop-up the info box, despite a threshold value being set (in which you would expected only out-going calls over a certain value to appear).

There are two likely causes of this:

  1. Spurious or old values in MONTEL.INI or DEFAULT.INI. These values can be removed by deleting the exiting MONTEL.INI file (and DEFAULTS.INI file) and re-creating it as shown below. However, MonTel Version 2.9.0 Pre-release vi, has code changes to ignore these values and if you upgrade, and the problem still occurs then it is caused by (2) below.
  2. A bug/coding error in MonTel where if "Pop-up Always" is selected it does what is says in stead of what is meant (which was to pop-up if MonTel for Window toolbar is maximised or normal, as well as minimised).

This will be fixed in 2.9.0 Pre-release viii.

The work around in the mean while is to:

    1. Set AlwaysUserDefault in the [Program] section of the PABX.INI file is 0 (if it isn't already).
    2. Restart the MonTel client, and make sure that the background mode options are set so that Pop-up when is set to "Minimised Only".
    3. Save the options and exit MonTel.
    4. Copy MONTEL.INI from the C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT directory to the MonTel Application directory on the server. Delete of replace the existing DEFAULTS.INI, and rename MONTEL.INI to DEFAULTS.INI
    5. Set AlwaysUserDefault in the [Program] section of the PABX.INI file to the original value(if required).
