How the MonTel Win2003 Fax Service Monitoring service works

MonTel Win2003 Fax Service Monitoring service (FaxMonSv) provides a method whereby Faxes queued to the Windows 2003 Server Fax service from any application on the network, can be recorded and translated into data that can be used by the MonTel Server to generate MonFax records. MonFax records are essentially MonTel call records, that also may have information about the page count and the User (the login account that sent the fax). The MonTel Server can use this information to decide where the pop-up should occur.

The following illustration provides an overview of the basic architecture of the FaxMonSv service and its relationship to the Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Fax Service and the MonTel Server.

Since FaxMonSv is using information based on Queue records it can only guess the duration of the hypothetical call record that would have been generated. In many instances this is not a problem as costing is based on a page count. However, at this stage FaxMonSv does not actually confirm if the fax was sent.
