When to update MonTel.

MonTel development is undertaken with some of the views of extreme programming in mind. See http://www.extremeprogramming.org for more information. The key phrase is : "... deliver the system to the customers as early as possible and implement changes as suggested." (http://www.extremeprogramming.org/what.html).

Because of this we issue frequent patches and or updates. There have been (at the time this topic was constructed) 57 updates for version 2.9 of MonTel. Most of these pre-release versions, and most of those concerning fairly minor matters.

We recommend one of two approaches with MonTel updates.

1) Install, test and deliver, and when there are no more issues, sit tight until there is a feature you need or a new feature you wish to install. The exception, is that you may nee to upgrade if a bug is discovered or a security risk becomes apparent. In addition you will need to update to be able to demonstrate that the issue affects a current version of MonTel, as we can only fix an issue known to exist in the last update. (Plus some features improvements will be irresistible such as the dramatic increase in reliability and speed of using MSDE over Jet!).

2) Update at every opportunity. This will keep you ahead of the pack with any issues, and make support for both parties a lot easier. It will also allow you to pro-actively suggest amendments, changes and new features for MonTel.

Note that updates are free to all clients on a current maintenance agreement.
